9 to 5 The Musical is currently on at the Bournemouth Pavilion and it’s definitely not to be missed!

This outstanding performance of 9 to 5 The Musical is based on the iconic 1980 hit film, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton.  The musical comedy is set in the late 1970s and follows three determined women - Violet, Judy, and Doralee - who have had enough of their overbearing, sexist boss.  They each dream of a better workplace and join forces to stop the boss and make improvements in the office.

The show opens and closes with the beloved song “9 to 5” and there’s plenty of catchy tunes and perfectly timed choreography throughout.  Violet, Judy, and Doralee all have incredible voices, as does all of the cast.

By the end of the show we adored watching Violet, Judy, and Doralee become good friends and I don’t want to ruin the story but I will say that it’s hilarious and the women triumph to make a positive change.  The whole cast are just amazing but Roz must also have a mention.  She is completely in love with her boss and belts out a couple of humorous solos which left everyone in stitches.

The only part that left me completely miffed was the occasional bare bottom that walked across the stage.  One thing I do know though is that everyone looked and smiled.  Well done to that chap, I think you made my mum blush!

BBLOC are Bournemouth’s biggest amateur musical theatre company and this show would definitely not be out of place in the West End.  It really is a wonderful tribute to the superstar Dolly Parton, she would have been really proud of y’all.

I can thoroughly recommend seeing 9 to 5 The Musical.  I was really impressed with the exceptional cast.  We had such a memorable night, the time just flew by and I wasn’t bored for even one second.  I loved every minute of it and it was clear that with the standing ovation and dance at the end that we weren’t the only ones.

Words from Dorsetnanny:

'9 to 5 The Musical was as good as any West End show.  Dolly would have been so proud of everyone.  The cast, costume and music had me so moved and brought me back to my 9 - 5 working days in London.  This show packs it all, thank you for a great night.'

9 to 5 The Musical is on at the Bournemouth Pavilion from Wednesday 14th – Saturday 17th October 2026.  On Saturday there’s a matinee and evening performance.
