  1. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang the Musical is based on Ian Fleming’s timeless story for children and was later made into the famous 1968 film.  The kind and slightly absent-minded inventor Caractacus Potts has already made numerous creations but not all are successful first time round.  With the help of his children, Jemima and Jeremy, he restores a broken-down old racing car which the family soon discovers has magical powers.

Things aren't quite plain sailing though as the car has caught the attention of the Baron and Baroness of Vulgaria and poor Grandpa Potts gets kidnapped in a case of mistaken identity.  So the family and the delectable Truly Scrumptious go on fantastical adventure to save him!  Once there, they discover that children are banned and poor Jemima and Jeremy are hunted by the evil childcatcher.  With the help of the toymaker, Mr Potts saves the day and rescues all the children.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a thoroughly entertaining show with an outstanding cast, stunning vocals, musical numbers that everyone knows, dazzling visual effects and an impressive set design.  It was such a joy to be taken into their wonderfully fantastical world for a few hours and the highlight had to be watching Chitty take to the sky.

A few words from Dorsetnanny: "This truly scrumptious classic show has it all, a great cast, fun, plenty of laughs, wonderful music and the icing on the cake being the legendary Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car.  Lively performance from all, it brought back happy memories of this 60's classic.  Well done everyone for such a fantastic performance."

  2. British Science Week is a celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths and this year we went to The Purbeck School for their Science Fair.

I honestly wasn’t expecting to see as much as we did and in hindsight I wished we’d got there earlier.  Saying that, we still spent a good couple of hours exploring and were one of the last people to leave!

Entry was free however there was a small charge for the Science Dome which I was happy to book for later in the afternoon.

Each room had numerous hands-on activities and exhibits and if one area was busy, we just moved onto the next and came back.

My daughter was in heaven taking part in fun science experiments, especially the messy activities with oobleck and pond water, plus observing the staff performing different chemical reactions.

By the time our Science Dome session came round, I was grateful for a sit down and we enjoyed our 360 degree short film.

While we were there we saw stands from The Etches Collection, The Institute of Physics, Defence Battlelab, local Universities, Dorset Wildlife Trust, Urban Heath Partnership, The Tank Museum, National Trust, Stem Ambassador, Wessex Water, and much more.

This was such a wonderful community event which I would recommend to everyone.  I must say a huge thank you to all of the staff, volunteers and students, we had such a fantastic afternoon and we look forward to attending again in the future.
