Wild Spirit Kids: A Holistic Holiday Club in Christchurch
Posted on
In a world that seems to move faster every year, many children are spending their days in a constant state of “switched on.” Busy school schedules, after‑school clubs, play dates, screens, noise and fast‑paced routines can leave little room to recharge.
Abbie is the leader and creator of Wild Spirit Kids and she tells us all about it:
As a mum myself, I’ve seen first‑hand how this non‑stop stimulation can leave children overwhelmed, tired or struggling to switch off. And like many parents, I’ve often found myself searching for holiday provision that offers something different - a space where children can breathe, reset and simply be themselves.
That search is what inspired me to create Wild Spirit Kids, a holistic holiday club in Christchurch designed for families who want more than just childcare. This is a place where children can slow down, reconnect with nature and creativity and enjoy the magic of childhood at their own pace.
Why Wild Spirit Kids?
So many holiday clubs are packed with high‑energy, competitive activities. While these can be fun, they don’t always offer the calm, mindful environment that some children need - especially those who feel overwhelmed by noise, pace or pressure. I wanted to create a space that honours a different rhythm. A space where children can reset, move their bodies in mindful ways and explore creativity without expectation or competition.
Research shows that the impact of constant stimulation, such as school, sport, guided activities or any kind of screen time, overwhelms developing nervous systems and damages our children’s health. Children need time to decompress, connect with nature and engage in non-competitive play. Wild Spirit Kids weaves these principles into every session, offering a nurturing alternative to the usual holiday club experience.
What We Offer
Whilst every day is different, they are all thoughtfully designed to support wellbeing, imagination and emotional balance. Children can enjoy:
• Mindful movement - kids’ yoga, grounding exercises and gentle breathwork led by a qualified children’s yoga teacher.
• Creative expression - arts, crafts, sensory play and imaginative projects that are expressive rather than prescriptive.
• Nature connection - planting, nature trails, outdoor exploration and free play in the fresh air.
• A calm, screen‑free environment - giving children space to reset without digital noise.
• Non‑competitive, inclusive activities - suitable for a wide range of needs, personalities and learning styles
Sessions take place at the local Scout Hut in Christchurch, a cosy and familiar setting that supports small, nurturing groups.

Our Values
Wild Spirit Kids is built on seven core values that shape everything we do:
1. Nurture & Care - creating a space where children can reset, recharge and feel safe to be themselves.
2. Creativity & Imagination - encouraging playful exploration and self‑expression.
3. Connection to Nature - weaving outdoor experiences and eco‑awareness into our days.
4. Community & Belonging - fostering warm, inclusive groups where every child feels seen.
5. Growth & Resilience - supporting confidence, emotional regulation and gentle independence.
6. Playful Connection - celebrating friendship, laughter and shared joy.
7. Wellbeing & Balance - helping children discover harmony between movement, mindfulness and creativity.
Created With Heart
Wild Spirit Kids is designed and led by me, Abbie - a local mum, artist and qualified children’s yoga teacher. I’m passionate about children’s wellbeing, emotional safety and imaginative play, and I’ve poured that passion into every part of this club. My aim is for children to leave feeling calmer, more confident and joyfully tired - the good kind of tired that comes from a day well spent.
Spaces are intentionally limited to keep our groups small, nurturing and personal. If you feel your child would benefit from a calmer, more mindful holiday experience, we would love to welcome them.
If you have any queries or would like to book a space, please visit Wild Spirit Kids.
