NOTHE FORT SCIENCE DAY

Info: Head to Nothe Fort for fun science activities and demonstrations for all the family to enjoy.  There will be a Mini Professors Science Exploration Station with engaging experiments, plus explore the Fort scent stations, magnet games, fossil activities and much more!  This event is covered by your Annual Pass and General Admission ticket price.

SENSORY SAFE SCIENCE DAY

Info: Drop-in sessions offering interactive science activities, especially aimed at children who are neurodivergent or who might prefer a quieter environment.  Practise some hands-on physics experiments which you can try at home, and learn about the Moon and Mars through history with fun facts and games.  You will also have the opportunity to examine some fascinating creatures under a microscope, and take part in some hands on nature-based activities with Bugs, Bones and Botany.

SOLAR SYTEM WALK WITH WEYMOUTH ASTROMONY CLUB

Info: How big would the solar system be if the Sun was only half a metre across?  On this family walk from Dorchester Cricket Club in Weymouth Avenue to the Town Pump in South Street, you will encounter all the planets and learn interesting facts about each one.  The walk is being led my members of Weymouth Astronomy Club.  You will meet in the Dorchester Cricket Club car park and end at the Town Pump on South Street. ADVENTURES IN SCIENCE

Info: Join ‘The Magical Mr West’ on an incredible adventure into the world of science! Aided by his corvid companion Crowbert and a collection of curious contraptions, Mr West demonstrates the fundamental principles of scientific enquiry, exploring everything from supersonic speediness to malicious misinformation.

FAMILY SCIENCE DAY

Info: Take part in some fascinating practical learning and experiments, with lots of experts on-hand to ask those tricky science questions and test your knowledge.  You will have the opportunity to learn about forensics and fingerprinting, discover how to use wildlife tracking equipment, uncover the fascinating world of elephants, use virtual reality to check out how good you are at recognising faces in a crowd, and much more!  Booking essential.  Recommended age 4+.

BEHIND THE SCENES AT THE DORSET MUSEUM

Info: Take part in a unique behind the scenes tour of the Collections Discovery Centre. Join for a family friendly tour and have a go at being a curator.  Learn how collections are cared for and handle real objects during this fun and interactive session. Recommended age 7+.

BONE BUILDERS AT THE DORSET MUSEUM

Info: Meet the archaeology team from Bournemouth University.  They’ll be on site to share how excavations are carried out, what happens when human remains are discovered, and how those remains are reconstructed for conservation, research, and display.  Using life-like cast bones, you’ll get the chance to piece together a full skeleton — can you figure it out?  No booking necessary.  Recommended age 7+.
